Parish Choir

The choir's primary liturgical responsibility is to lead the singing of hymns. The choir also performs various anthems and service music ranging from the classical to the contemporary while maintaining the standard of excellence found in traditional Anglican liturgy.

The music program at St. Philip's is led by Paul Dunkle, organist and choirmaster. Dunkle holds a Masters Degree in Sacred Music and works with the priest to plan the liturgies and ensure that the quality of music Episcopalians expect is carried out capably. The parish choir is a choir of volunteer singers which rehearses one evening during the week and leads worship each Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist (September through May). The Sunday worship service is preceded by a warm-up and rehearsal beginning at 9:30 a.m. During the summer months, the choir enjoys a well deserved hiatus. The organist typically invites instrumentalists and guest vocalists to share their talents with St. Philip's during the choir's summer break.

About St. Philip's Pipe Organ

The Bunn-Minnick Organ of St. Philip's Church was installed in 1984 and retains a few of the original ranks of pipes from the church's previous pipe organ. This is the third pipe organ installation for the church. The two earlier organs were located on the nave level, one being a small instrument with a Gothic style wooden case and the second a larger organ with elaborately stenciled pipes occupying the space where the choirs stalls are now located.
